Web Mountain, Mount Defiance, Dirty Harry’s Peak

June 6th, 2023

We are the Mountain goats and today we climbed MT Defiance, PPP, Web Mountain, and Dirty Harry (Sorta).

We decided to start from the Ira Spring Trail, hit Mt Defiance, and follow the ridge down to Dirty Harry. We got to the trailhead around 8:15 AM which was already a complete madhouse. We took the old trail up to Mason Lake which was great as we only saw 1 person. The route from Mason Lake to Defiance was straightforward, although there were a few route-finding problems near Mason Lake, where there's still a decent amount of snow. Once we got to the meadows, we had no problems and followed the trail up to the Summit.

Slopes between Defiance and PPP

The Route from Mt Defiance to Putrid Pete's Peak is straightforward. There's a defined trail that drops under the ridge into the woods before popping back up and breaking out into the meadows. The trail then snakes up the ridgeline to the summit. Overall, it took us around 1 Hour to go from Defiance to PPP. (Going at a slow pace)

Summit of PPP

There is no trail from PPP to Web, but I ended up traversing the rocky slopes, staying high, before climbing the summit block. Just be careful not to go too high or you'll get stuck. The views from Web MT are quite a bit better than PPP and I think it's worth the 25 minutes it takes to traverse over.

From the top of Web, we decided to head down the other side to Dirty Harry's Bathtub as my brother was completely out of water. This proved a lot harder than I thought as there are zero trails from Web Mt to the Dirty Harry trail. We ended up just dropping down a steep boulder field into the woods where we followed a creek down to Dirty Harry's bathtub. The tarn still has quite a bit of water, and the area around it is stunning. 500 feet away we were able to pick up a trail and follow it towards the main Dirty Harry trail. Once we hit the trail, we were around 30 Minutes from the Summit of Dirty Harry, but we were already running late so we ended up just heading down.

We drank from this? Not great…
